The 400 series Shinkansen is a train for the Yamagata Shinkansen that was introduced in 1992.
When it was first introduced, it consisted of 6 cars, but one car was later added, making it a 7-car train. It
was repainted in new colors around 1999, and the old paintwork from when it was introduced was completely changed around 2001.
With the addition of the successor E3 series, all of the trains were retired in 2008.
