The E233-2000 series, a local train on the Joban Line that was introduced in 2009, features a design and exterior that is compatible with direct subway service. In 2016, the train began operating on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line as well as the Odakyu Electric Railway, expanding the operating area. Due to this direct operation, the position and shape of the skirts were slightly changed, giving the train a unique impression.
In 2022, the headlights of some formations were replaced with LED lights, and the replacement is still ongoing. As of 2023, 19 10-car trains are in service as the main vehicles for local trains on the Joban Line.
