The 583 series, which was allocated to Aomori Depot at the time of privatization, was used for the Hakutsuru, Yuuzuru, and Hatsukari trains, as well as the Tsugaru express and Akebono special trains.
After regular service ended in 1994, it was used for non-recurring transportation, but when the Hatsukari express service ended in 2002 due to the extension of the Tohoku Shinkansen to Hachinohe, it was transferred to Minamiakita Depot and Sendai Depot, and the series is no longer in service.
