The 185 series is a direct current express train that began operation in 1981. Around 1995, the trains at Shin-Maebashi Electric Railway Depot were renovated, and the body paint was changed to a cream base with a yellow, gray, and red block pattern based on the motif of the three mountains of Jomo, and the 'EXPRESS185' logo was added to the side. Around 2010, the skirts were changed to a reinforced type.
