Based on the North American F-86F Sabre, the CAC designed the CAC-27 Sabre for the RAAF. A94-983 entered service in November 1957, where it served in various squadrons until 1971. From 1971 to 1976 it flew with the Royal Malaysian Air Force, before returning to Australia in 1978 to be restored.

After undergoing a 12 month restoration, A94-983 now resides on display at Temora Aviation Museum.
