The AE86 Levin, which appeared in May 1983, dared to adopt an FR layout at a time when FF was the norm, and the engine was changed from the 2T-G of the previous generation to the newly developed 4A-G. The AE86 Levin and its sibling, the Trueno, came in two body variations: a 3-door hatchback and a 2-door coupe.
